About Baluran National Park

Baluran National Park

Baluran National Park is located in East Java, Indonesia, and covers around 61,000 hectares. Known for its striking resemblance to the African savanna, the park features a mix of savanna, lowland forests, mangroves, and coastal areas. Established in 1980, Baluran is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including banteng, Javan leopard, and various primate species. Birdwatchers flock here to observe over 200 bird species, some of which are endemic to Java. Karangtekok, the park's highest point, offers panoramic views of the park's expansive landscapes. One of the park's unique features is its accessibility for night safaris, providing visitors a rare opportunity to witness nocturnal wildlife. While hiking and bicycling are popular, the park is primarily accessed via a scenic drive that traverses through its diverse habitats. The nearby beaches offer stark contrasts to the drier savanna landscape, providing areas for relaxation and exploration.
